Study on Mental Health Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet

According to a recent study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition a Mediterranean diet may not help the mental facilties of an individual anymore than a regular diet despite previous research suggesting otherwise.

It was believed that the diet made up of items such as vegetables, grain,  nuts and oil could have a positive effect when it came to aging mental conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. The thinking behind this included the thought that a low fat diet would help keep blood vessels in a healthy condition.

This study which began in France in the mid nineties with over 3000 people claims differently.  Test subjects were split into three groups and tested again when they reached 65 years old. Results showed little difference between those on a normal diet and those closest to the Mediterranean style.
